21 Aug 13. For brothers as well as sisters, Vedic tradition reserves the day for them to celbrate their relations and renew for eac others' protection. This day is on the full moon day of the month of August; 21st this year. It is called Janai purnima and also Raksha bandhan.
Janai or the sacred thread is worn by men of higher consciousness who have undergone the sanskar called bratabadha. Sanskar means purification process from which sankriti comes, ie culture. It is the Vedic culture that elevates one to purificatory process. Janai is worn across the shoulder and there are prescribed methods to be followed strictly according to the Vedic wisdom.
Raksha bandhan is dedicated to foster brother- sister ralationship by wearing similar type of sacred emblem around the wrist. Sisters offers this emblem of love to their brothers on this day. But before offering to wear it, janai and raksha bandhan emblem are purified through Vedic hyms and firstly offered to the the Lord Krishna. Otherwise those items has no potency as well as the significance.
